Located on South Campus between the SASB North and South, the UNC NPHC Legacy Plaza will create a positive environment for NPHC organizations to unite in efforts to promote their fraternities and sororities while educating students about the history of these diverse organizations.

About the UNC NPHC Legacy Plaza
The plaza celebrates the nine National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) fraternities and sororities at Carolina. These organizations have impacted UNC’s campus since the first organization arrived in 1973 with their commitment to civic engagement, leadership, academic achievement, and providing a sense of belonging for students. The plaza comes to fruition as UNC NPHC celebrates its 48th anniversary on campus.

Project Overview
The fundraising campaign to raise the financial resources needed for the $750,000 project cost launched during Homecoming 2017, and the design was unveiled Homecoming 2018 as NPHC celebrated its 45th Anniversary at Carolina! Project completion is set for August 2022. A Soft Opening is set for August 27 as UNC takes on FAMU in the home opener and HBCU Day in Kenan Stadium. The official ribbon cutting will happen Saturday, Oct. 1.

Giving Levels
Carolina has established several recognition societies to thank donors for their generosity. Your gift to the NPHC Legacy Plaza not only gets you recognized in the NPHC giving societies, but those of the University as well. Unless anonymity is requested, donors’ names are often listed in donor appreciation publications.

Corporate Matching
If you work for a company that has a matching gift program, you may be eligible to have your personal gift to Carolina matched. Corporate matching gifts are contributions from the corporation, and you will receive recognition credit for the amount of each matching gift received. Corporate matching gifts cannot be included in the amount of your personal pledge commitment to Carolina and cannot reduce your personal pledge. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, please enter your employer’s name.

Recognition

All donors will be recognized, based on their level of support to the plaza, in the Fraternity & Sorority Life office and in various publications.

Commemorative Brick and Paver Program
A commemorative brick program was established to engage NPHC alumni and friends to support and raise awareness and financial resources to build the garden. Donations can be made as a one-time payment or through 12-monthly installments. We encourage each individual NPHC alumni to purchase a brick or paver, each chapter line to purchase a paver and each NPHC chapter should have a paver representing the founding of their organization on campus. Options are a $500 4 x 8 Commemorative Engraved Brick or a $1,000 Commemorative Engraved Paver.

The goal is to ensure that current and future generations of the Carolina family and NPHC community understand the impact and appreciate the positive legacy that each organization has left on our beloved campus. All payments completed by April 30, 2021 are installed in the first round. Orders can still be placed, but will be placed in the future installations.

Following completion of the initial installation, bricks and pavers will be added to the UNC NPHC Legacy Plaza twice a year. Please see the timeline below.

  • Complete payment and inscription submitted by January 1 of each year, will be installed in April.
  • Complete payment and inscription submitted by July 1 of each year, will be installed in October.
